Filling Station

Filling Station, Lew Christensen's third professional choreographic work and commissioned by Ballet Caravan, is quite possibly his best known and seminal work. The work featured music by Virgil Thomson, scenario by Lincoln Kirsten, costumes and scenery by Paul Cadmus. The piece premiered on January 6, 1938 with Lew performing in the lead role of Mac, the station attendant. Other members of the premiere cast included Douglas Coudy, Eugene Loring, Harold Christensen, Majorie Moore, Jane Doering, Marie-Jeanne, Fred Danieli, Erick Hawkins, and Todd Bolender.
