Filling Station - 1960

During Lew Christensen's first year as artistic director of the San Francisco Ballet, the West Coast premiere for his ballet Filling Station took place on February 17, 1951 and the work remained a popular staple in the San Francisco Ballet repertory during Lew's tenure. The images on this page come from the 1960 performance with Richard Carter dancing the role of Mac, the station attendant. This performance also featured Michael Smuin and Ray Ohman as Roy and Ray the Truck Drivers, Julien Herrin as the Motorist, and Kent Stowell and Louise Lawler as the Rich Boy and Rich Girl respectively.
